The late Det Gda Adrian Donohoe from Kilnaleck.

Verdict due in murder case

The jury will resume their deliberations today (Wednesday), August 12, in the case of an Armagh man accused of the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe during a credit union raid in January 2013.

Aaron Brady was found guilty on Monday, August 9, of involvement in the robbery during which Det Gda Donohoe, a native of Kilnaleck, was shot dead.

The jury of five men and seven women will continue their deliberations from 9:30am this morning on the charge of capital murder, which Mr Brady denies.

There were hushed scenes in the courtroom when the foreman of the jury announced they had reached a unanimous verdict on count two relating to robbery on Monday afternoon.

Mr Brady had denied involvement in the robbery of €7,000 at Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, Co Louth, on January 25, 2013.

Following the verdict Mr Justice Michael White said he will accept a majority verdict on the capital murder charge, if at least 10 of the jurors agree.

The jury continued their deliberations yesterday (Tuesday) without result. It's understood they may sit until 3pm today.

Four possible verdicts now remain open to the jury - guilty of capital murder, guilty of murder, guilty of manslaughter or not guilty.
