Seamus Kennedy Cup

Navan RC to host race in memory of cycling legend

Navan Road Club will be staging the Seamus Kennedy Memorial 2020 race on Sunday 8th March with a large number of cyclists sure to participate. The race gets underway at 12.30.

This is the first  time Navan Road Club will stage the Seamus Kennedy Memorial. Previously the race was hosted by Dunboyne Cycling Club.

Seamus was  a member of Navan Road club  having been part of a group including  Larry Clarke, Noel Clarke and Brian Connaghton who were a formidable force in road racing in the 1970s.

He recorded numerous  high-profile victories  including  the Ras Tailteann  in 1978 riding for his parents' home county of Kerry. He continued  to race and train for many years with many riders benefitting from him giving advice and  sharing his renowned tactical skills.

Navan Road Club have invariably held the first race of the season and the organisors are hoping there won't be a repeat of last year when snow almost caused the event to be stopped.

Registration  for the race is at Simonstown GAA Navan (from 9.30) with the races starting  at 12.30 with the cyclists embarking on a 24-mile lap taking in Scanlons X, Roadstone Slane, Woodtown X, Cassidys X with the finish @ Wilkinstown Hall approx 3.30pm.
