All-Ireland cross country at Rathdrum

The All-Ireland Intermediate, Masters, 'B' uneven age & Cross-Country Relays took centre stage last weekend at Avondale House, Rathdrum. 

Silver medal winning displays were the order of the day from Meath teams in intermediate ladies, master men o-35 and u-13 girls while the u-15 boys picked up a bronze.

The masters teams were led by the brother and sister duo of Ann-Marie Drake and George Snee.

The Intermediate ladies team was led by Meath senior cross-country champion Laura Buckley (Dunboyne) who finished in fifth place, with Ellen Vitting (Trim) in 15th and with the Dunboyne duo of Eimear English and Ciara O’Neill finishing in 23rd and 37th place they were easily clear of Cork in the bronze medal place.

The men’s masters team claimed a silver medal ahead of Cork with a score of 182pts.

Leading the men home were Snee in 11th, Sean Murphy (Trim) in 17th, Richie Bell (Fr Murphy) 21st and Rory Kavanagh (Dunboyne) 29th, with Seoirse Comerford and Brian Flannelly (both Dunboyne) in 43rd and 61st place completing the six scoring members.

Murphy and Phelim Glynn (Dunboyne AC) both won silver medals in the o-45 and o-55 categories respectively.

In the u-13 girls race the Bohermeen duo of Cara Brennan (third) and Emma Hunt (fourth) ensured Meath won the silver medal.

The u-15 boys team was led home to a bronze team medal by Ben Corkery (Bohermeen) who also collected an individual medal as a result of his 12th place finish in a very competitive race.

Tom Durcan (Bohermeen) who won gold in the o-75 category raced over 4,000m.

The Bohermeen girls u-11 team at Avondale who also made up the Meath team were Sarah Heffernan (left), Ellie Brennan, Grace Cassidy, Danu McGann, Molly O’Brien, Eva Keogan, Emily O’Brien.
