Off and running at the Trim 10-mile Road Race last Sunday

Trim 10-mile Road Race a big success

More than 1,500 athletes set off for the fifth annual Trim AC 10-mile road race sponsored by Nally's SuperValu on Sunday.

With the start and finish at Oaktree Business Park there was ample opportunities for spectators to enjoy the atmosphere in the pre-race build-up and also at the finish line where each runner received tremendous encouragement.

The top spot was claimed by Yared Darese (Carrick Aces) who achieved well under the five-minute-mile pace except for mile seven. 

The currrent national half marathon champios put in a tremendous display of brave front running to score a clear win ahead of Eric Keogh (Donore Harriers) with international cross country runner Hugh Armstrong (Ballina) completing the podium. 

Ciara Durkin (Skerrries AC) was the first female to cross the line recording a a superb 59.16 ahead of Isobel Oakes in 60.52 and Caroline Donnellan (Edenderry AC) who has strong Trim and Longwood connections in third place just one second further behind.

Trim AC chairman Ciaran Tobin was delighted with the numbers who enetred and was also eager to highlight the contribution of sponsor Stevn Nally.

"We are very lucky to have the continued support of Steven Nally/SuperValu Trim as our race sponsor, he is a generous supporter of community activity," stated Tobin.

"A special thanks also to our race committee, the fantastic race volunteers, Bernard Smith,an Garda Siochana, Civil Defence, Oaktree Business Park, Longwood Running Group, Dunderry GAA club, Dr Tony Ryan, Paddy Mangan, Meath AAI, PopUp Races, Cathy Shelly, Ken Wilson and the Church of Ireland Diocesan Hall.

"The race was also part of the Meath 10-mile championship which is sponsored by Rentokil Initial, thanks to Peter McSherry for the support," he added.
