Objections lodged to new Tayto Park application

Revised plans by Tayto Park for its proposed €15.5m ‘Coaster 2021’ project has been met with objections by the two local resident who objected to earlier proposals for the development last year.

Donal Greene and Clare Smith have lodged an objection against the new plan saying it “will have a serious negative long-term impact on our peaceful enjoyment of our home and the protection of the natural environment”.

Businessman Raymond Coyle Ray Coyle said last month that the new proposals for the development include a raft of noise-reducing measures including putting parts of the ride in underground tunnels and inside pipes are included in plans for the new attraction.
The new planning application for the proposed steel roller coaster was lodged with Meath Co Council in November. An Bord Pleanala had refused an earlier application.

The objections by Mr Greene and Ms Smith says that "aside from  proposals to make some noise abatement modifications to the development, the proposed new development is the same as the previous application”.

They said the grounds behind the An Bord Pleanála decision still stand “as no amendments have been made to counter the various issues they found to exist”.

These include the proximity of the development to residential development, a risk of flooding and environmental pollution and its likely significant adverse effect on the Nanny estuary.

Submissions on the proposal also include one in support of the plan by Cllr Alan Tobin who says "the importance of Tayto Park to the Ashbourne area cannot be underestimated.

"People come from all over Ireland to visit the park which is of great economic benefit to not only Ashbourne but also the greater Meath area."
