Donaghmore/Ashbourne struggle to put Moynalvey away

In a very low-scoring, low-wattage encounter Donaghmore/Ashbourne just about managed to get the better of Moynalvey,  0-7 to 0-6, at Walterstown this evening and progress to the knock-out phase.

Both sides were unable to find their scoring touch and struggled to put scores up in a scappy, lacklustre affair.

The victory earns Donaghmore/Ashbourne a place in the preliminary quarter-final but they could so easily have found themselves losing this game and in real trouble as Moynalvey had two late goal chances.

Andy Tormey was topscorer for Donaghmore/Ashbourne with three points with goalkeeper Andrew Colgan next with two from frees. Darragh McGovern and Stephen Carton also pointed for Donaghmore/Ashbourne who led 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.

Moynalvey played in fits and starts with Mark O'Sullivan firing three points over for them from frees while Cillian O'Sullivana and hit two scores from placed balls.  David McLoughlin fired over a late point from play.

However Moynalvey almost snatched it at the end with McLoughlin and Darren Brennan presented with goal chances but the ball stayed out of the Donaghmore/Ashbourne net and they progress.
