Trim take step up with victory

Trim ensured that they will be playing in Group A of the SHC next year when they defeated Na Fianna 3-13 to 1-13 at Rathmolyon this evening.

Neil Cole's side led for most of the way and they had to work hard before subduing the spirited display of John Davis's Na Fianna side who were also in contention to secure a place in Group A next year if they won.

Neil Heffernan was in fine form for the team in red scoring 2-3 with his first goal helping to give his team a 1-7 to 0-6 interval advantage.

The sides were level a number of times in the second-half  but it was Trim who managed to find an extra gear in the closing stages with the help of a goal from Mikie Cole on 58 minutes.

Shortly afterwards James Toher sent a ball into the Na Fianna goalmouth and Heffernan finished for his second goal of the evening. Brian Dowling finished with six points for Trim with Conor Quigley adding two. Alan Douglas and James Andrews also contributed.

Barry Slevin hit 1-6 for Na Fianna while Ronan Byrne and Mark Slevin hit three and Johnny McCluskey one but they were unable to stay with a fired up Trim in those closing minutes.
