Day for all the family at Trim's Royal Meath show

Sunday 1st September will see the Porch Fields of Trim come alive. The 79th annual Royal Meath Show will fill the fields along the ring road of Trim, in the shadow of the Yellow Steeple.

The Trim show promises something for everyone’s interests. Animals big, little and small will all be present. From black to blonde and all shades in between can be seen in the cattle area. With displays of young stockperson for the under 18s, to the more experienced handlers showing in all the different breed classes. All sizes will be present from the smallest calf to a bull that could weigh one tonne. One of the biggest attractions here is the battle of the breeds, with teams of cattle competing against each other.
The sheep and goats come in a wide variety of breeds, shapes and sizes. From the smallest Pygmy to a large buck goat, all are to be seen in the calm of the goat area. The sheep section is a great spectacle with the black faced Suffolk competing against the black and white Zwarbles. If you aren’t familiar withe different sheep breeds this is a grest place to learn. An unusual class here is the best dressed lamb.
Taking up the biggest portion of the field is the horse section. From the smallest tots on the family pony, to a large number competing on their old reliable hunter, with displays of the elegant side saddle riders to ridden hunter classes, with then excitement of the ridden hunters jumping a selection of jumps.
The quiet area in the home industries tent, shows the diversity of what the talented people of the county and further afield are capable of doing. The displays include in their raw form vegetables, fruit, plants and hay. Then they are transformed into jam, cakes and more. The Van Goghs of the county enter the art classes, along with a wide choice of photo competitions. The Meath ICA guilds also have space to shine turning Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into cake, art and flower displays. The area that gets a lot of attention in the tent are the children’s classes, seeing the imagination used to transform a loo roll into something else is amazing.
A lot of other activities take place during the day. The artisan art and food areas are very popular. The year chef Adrian Martin will be doing cookery demonstrations during the day. The popular young chef from Cavan brings a great buzz to the tent, and gives ideas of how to use all the goodies from the food stalls. The craft tent will be heaving with hand made things to tempt you. An interest area near this is the heritage crafts, where you see hand crafts up close, and might even pick up a new hobby.
Meath Environmental Network is back to provide information how to help with biodiversity and environmental issues. Another subject that is growing in popularity is bee keeping. The Meath Beekeepers will be hosting their show, along with displays and knowledge sharing on the world of bee keeping.
The music area is a great place to stop, with live music will be on the field from 11.30am.
The year the talented Eimear Furlong will be warming up the dancers for Eddie Quinn. The highlight for the day will be John Hogan, keeping everyone dancings till five. The Dunderry set dancers will be squeezing in for a display during the day.
The dog show is always a great display, with large numbers competing in each class. Entries are taken on the day, so you have plenty of time to get them groomed.
There will be plenty of stalls to study too, you never know what little bit you might find, whether it’s something to eat, drink or keep the kids happy. Hudsons Funfair will be pulling into the field as well as other amusements that will keep the teens happy.
Admission is €10 per adult, teens and seniors €5, children free. Plenty of free parking is available across the road. All that is needed now is the sun to shine, and Kerry to beat the Dubs, but you dont need to rush home to watch it, with a large screen in the field.
