Bohermeen half marathon set for Sunday

Bohermeen Athletic Club will host the 46th Rennicks Cup and 43rd Fr Delany Cup which incorporates the eighth Meath Spring half marathon with the start set for 11am.

This year's event is a stand alone run and with the entry now closed at 1,500 runners it has representation from almost every county of Ireland as well as runners from England , Ethiopia and one athlete from Moscow.

The main sponsor of the event is McNally Logistics, a locally based national and international haulage company.

The club also has many more sponsors who support the event this year and in previous years. All the sponsors' logos will be embossed on the special race tshirt and this year there is also a unique medal for all the finishers.

Bohermeen has a very unique history in half marathon running in Ireland as the first ever half marathon took place on 1st April 1973 as part of the Meath championships.

Some 10 years later in 1983 the inaugural half marathon championship also took place at Bohermeen.

All competitors on Sunday should arrive early and car pool where possible.

Race headquarters will be at Bohermeen Community Centre and the race will start on the New Line at Neilstown going towards Ardbraccan cross then to the Athboy road and by Ongenstown back to Neilstown taking in the required distance over two laps.

The club would like to acknowledge the help and co-operation from all parts of the local community.

“Without that type of co-operation the event could not take place on the day and also with the preparations in advance of the event,” stated Bohermeen club chairman Stephen Ball.
