Vitting's quest for Kerry gold successful

Trim adventure athlete Ellen Vitting returned to her native Kerry yesterday and won the Quest Kenmare.

She scooped the 79km Expert category in very tough wet and windy conditions over some of the toughest terrain for adventure racing in Ireland. 

Vitting was a nominee in January in the outstanding achievement category at the Meath Sports Awards.

Yesterday's challenge included road cycling, kayak, trail and road running over a combined distance of 79km around Kenmare, Templenoe (where she is from) and Bonane.

"It was 10 times harder than usual due to the woeful weather conditions, but all the more satistying to emerge from it with a win," she calmly commented following a tremendous success. 

Last weekend Ellne won the Setanta Duathlon near Dundalk.

She was a nominee at the Meath Sports Awards  in January for her schievements in 2018 which included a win in the National Triathlon Series.

She was also voted Tri an Mhi female athlete of the year following excellent performances at the Lost Sheep in Kenmare, the Carlow Tri on the Barrow and the Pulse Triathlon in Louth (Clogherhead and Dunany). 

There was the Setanta Duathlon series in Dundalk and a string of top races in the Belpark series in the Phoenix Park 
and the occasional adventure race or marathon. 

In October 2018 she ran on the Meath team that won silver in the Leinster novice cross-country championship and the 
following day ran the Dublin City Marathon.
