Trim athlete Shane Aston won the National Indoor Senior high jump title at Abbotstown on Sunday

Aston was also amongst the medals in the pole vault on Saturday and the 60m hurdles on Sunday at the Dublin venue where he claimed bronze in each category.

He was the final competitor to win gold at the championships . He took the high jump honours with a leap of 2.0m ahead of Kourosh Foroughi (1.95m) from Star of the Sea.

Aston and Foroughi entered the competition at 1.80m, both clearing that height at the first attempt.

Foroughi cleared 1.85m while Aston skipped onto 1.90m and needed two attempts. The Star of the Sea man set the tempo with first attempt clearances at 1.90m and 1.95m.

Aston also cleared 1.95m at the first attempt and both men bypassed 1.98m to take on the 2.0m target.

Foroughi faltered, but Aston jumped clear on his third and final leap to claim the title. Although he didn't clear 2.05m, the Trim man still won the gold medal with Foroughi taking silver.

Aston ran 8.33 seconds in the 60m hurdles on Sunday to take third place behind Matthew Behan (Crusaders) in 7.96 with Rolus Olusa (Clonliffe Harriers) in 8.17.

Aston qualified for the final when he finished second in his heat on the same time as Olusa, but Behan was a class above the rest of the field.

On Saturday Aston achieved 4.10m in the pole vault for bronze behind Michael Bowler (Enniscorthy) who jumped 4.60m with St Laurence O'Toole's Matthew Callinan-Keenan second with 4.50m.

Aston almost missed out on a medal in the pole vault as he needed all three attempts to clear 3.70m and he required two vaults at 3.90m. However, the Trim man cleared 4.10m at the first attempt to edge out Olusa on countback.
