Trim Musical Society taking the pee!

Imagine that water is so scarce the government enforces a ban on all private toilets in an effort to control water consumption. Citizens have to pay to use public amenities. The amenities are operated by a private company run by the corrupt Caldwell B Cladwell. Those who risk avoiding the fee are taken to Urinetown, a mysterious place where many have been sent to but no one returns.

When an increase of fees occurs, the poor rise up against and fight against the regime for the right to use freely the public amenities. Bobby Strong promises to lead the poor to freedom while falling in love with Hope Cladwell. The Harsh Miss Pennywise reveals her own personal unsuspecting life story.
The story may not seem so unbelievable after the furore over water rates, meters, and charges in recent years. 'Urinetown: The Musical' is a satirical comedy musical that premiered in 2001, with music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Hollmann and Greg Kotis, from a book by Kotis. It satirises the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics. The show also parodies musicals such as 'The Threepenny Opera', 'The Cradle Will Rock' and 'Les Misérables', and the Broadway musical itself as a form.
The musical story unfolds as a terrible 20 year drought has crippled the city's water supply. Trim Musical Society is bringing this modern work to the Scoil Mhuire Hall, Trim, from Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd February at 8pm nightly.
