Eamon O Donnchadha scored a point for Meath against Mayo.

Antrim to provide stern test in Trim

How significant will Cathal Freeman's late point prove to be for Meath and their ambitions in the NHL Div 2A? Freeman, of course, fired over late on to rescue a dramatic draw for Mayo at Tooreen last Sunday and deny Meath a precious victory in the opening round of the league.

The result puts Meath under intense pressure as they prepare to take on Antrim at Trim on Sunday, 2pm. A victory against newly-promoted Mayo was one of the games Royal County manager Nick Fitzgerald and his selectors had targeted in order to pick up a victory and two precious points. Now, because of Freeman's late intervention, they are back to the drawing board.
Antrim come calling needing a victory themselves after they were defeated 2-16 to 1-21 at home by Kerry in their opening encounter last Sunday. One of the teams with realistic ambitions of clinching promotion they will be fired up to get back on track and are likely to descend on the Brews Hill venue with all the force of an Arctic storm blowing down from the north.
Meath will have to keep a close watch on players such as Eoin O'Neill who grabbed two goals against Kerry.
Meath goalkeeper Shane McGann is likely to get plenty of opportunities again to demonstrate just how good he is.
The home side will also be hoping players such as Padraig O'Hanrahan, who scored seven points against Mayo, James Kelly, Alan Douglas and Darragh Kelly are in top form. Even still, Antrim look too strong.
