Andrew Gavin.

Opera singer Andrew for hometown concert

Navan-born singer Andrew Gavin will feature in Irish National Opera’s seasonal lineup for 2018/2019 as part of their new opera studio. The INO studio makes an annual selection of operatic talent in Ireland — singers, répétiteurs, conductors, directors, composers — and provides specially tailored training, professional mentoring and high-level professional engagements for a group of individuals whose success will be key to the future development of opera in Ireland.

Tenor Andrew is one of just four Irish singers who has been selected for the inaugural year of this programme which began in September. Andrew has already benefitted from many opportunities such as singing roles in INO productions, participating in masterclasses with international singers and receiving coaching from some of Ireland’s finest operatic répétiteurs.
In 2019, Andrew will take roles in several new productions for the company, including Mozart’s The Magic Flute and a new opera being composed for the company named This Hostel Life, alongside other projects which have yet to be announced. “This is an exciting time for young Irish singers,” says Andrew. “It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to work here in Ireland and to be part of a company that really cares about nurturing Irish talent”.
Andrew will next perform in Navan on Saturday, 8th December, in St Mary’s Church of Ireland at 7.30pm. The evening will consist of opera, song repertoire and Christmas choral favourites as Andrew is joined by international soprano Emma Morwood, pianist Mairead Hurley and the Meath County Council Choir for an uplifting evening of singing.
“It has been a dream of mine to perform in concert at home for quite some time now”, says Andrew.
“I’m thrilled to perform for the people of Navan again after such a long time, and it makes it all the more special to be joined by such wonderful colleagues and friends in order to make that dream a reality”.
Tickets are €20 and available at the door on the night.
