Lack of tricks a treat for Meath's emergency services

By Michael Keaveny

Halloween night proved to be a quiet time for Meath's emergency services, with low levels of disturbances reported around the county. Similar trends were reported around the country in what was a relatively quiet night for Gardai and fire crews alike.
Navan fire brigade reported 12 call outs for Halloween related activities, with the majority of calls coming from urban areas. However none of the incidents were deemed to be serious and were stopped before they could cause any real damage. A spokesperson from Navan Fire Brigade said that the number of incidents was less than previous years.
Similarly Navan Garda Station reported an uneventful night with only a handful of occurrences reported. A representative from Navan Garda station said that while there were the usual cases of fireworks being set off, in general it was a quiet night for the station, whose catchment area extends as far away as Nobber and Drumconrath. They went on to say  that this can be attributed to the fact that "there were 25 patrols sent out, which is much more than a normal night" as well as the fact that "people are finding it harder to gain access to fireworks because they have to travel to get them and they are becoming more and more expensive".
