Ladies GAA club championships set for Saturday

The action will start in the Meath Ladies GAA club championships this weekend with a total of 41 teams from 35 clubs making it the biggest so far for Meath Ladies Football.

Senior champions St Ultan's will be at home for their opening game against current intermediate champions Royal Gaels and this contest will be the featured game for the Meath Chronicle at Sean Newman Park on Saturday.

This is sure to be an interesting clash as the Dunshaughlin girls have already accounted for St Ultan's this year in the league.

Last year’s beaten senior championship finalists Boardsmill take on Oldcastle who were finalistsin 2015.

This one will be a close encounter. Oldcastle are under new management this year and will be looking to bring back the form of 2015. Boardsmill will want to go one better than they managed in 2016.

Na Fianna will play host to Dee Rangers on Saturday. Both sides have been in the senior championship for a while now and will be eager to get to the play-offs or better at the end of the year.

In the final game of the senior first round Simonstown host Seneschalstown. History dictates that Seneschalstown will be favourites to win this one, but Simonstown won’t be lying down easily.

Dunboyne open the intermediate when they take on Ratoath at home. They will want to experience the heady days of 2015 when they took the ultimate prize of the All-Ireland Junior Club Championship.

St Colmcille's and Donaghmore/Ashbourne will want to recapture the dizzy heights of last year when they won the JFC and Div 2 League titles respectively.

Both of these teams have worked long and hard to be where they are at the moment and it’s not that long ago that Donaghmore/Ashbourne had no adult team at all and the Cilles were languishing in Junior B. A lot of hard work has gone into both clubs at adult level.

Next up is Summerhill and Blackhall Gaels. Summerhill just seem to miss out at the final hurdle. Captained this year by Jenny Rispin they will surely be looking to win the title.

Blackhall Gaels will have plenty to say on that score.

2015 Intermediate finalists St Michael's face a trip to Moynalvey. St Michael's should be favourites in this one having already had the experience of a few finals along the way.
