Darkness Into Light for Fairyhouse and Navan

'Darkness into Light' 5km walk/runs in aid of Pieta House will take place in Navan and at Fairyhouse Racecourse, Ratoath, on the morning of 6th May.
This is the fifth year of the Navan event which will once again set off from Navan Rugby Club , and the second year for Fairyhouse.

Darkness Into Light is a unique, early morning experience which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking. More than 120,000 people took part in walks at almost 120 locations in Ireland and abroad last year.
Last year's event at Fairyhouse raised €32,000 for mental health awareness and suicide prevention and saw around 2,000 people attend and take part as a sea of yellow t-shirts descended on the home of Ireland's Grand National.

Chairman of the Committee, Andrew Ralph said; 'We will be putting on entertainment between 3 & 4am as walkers and runners arrive - the event itself will formally kick off at 4:15am at each venue nationwide'

'We are very fortunate with the facilities available to us at Fairyhouse and grateful to management there for allowing us to host such a great event - we have toilets, hundreds of car parking spaces, a stage with an audio sound system and an iconic setting to do two laps as the dusk turns to dawn.

'The purpose of the event is primarily to raise funds for Pieta House and to encourage people to speak up and to speak out about mental health - it's okay to not be feeling okay and to get the help you need. Hopefully, weather permitting, if members of the community in South-East Meath come together on the morning - we can all walk from darkness into light and show our support to all those struggling with mental health.'

'We would like extend massive thanks all our partners in the local area - Ratoath GAA, Caldwell's, As You Like It & Sweeney's Centra; they'll all be opening up on the morning at 5am to serve breakfasts.'
