BREAKING: Deep sadness in Navan tonight with news that tragic Elrich Caputo has died

Elrich Caputo, the 11-year-old boy knocked down by an articulated lorry at a busy Navan junction earlier this month has passed away.

Elrich from Troytown Heights was on his way to a football match with Navan's Parkvilla Football Club when the tragic accident occurred at around 9.45am on October 16th. It is understood the boy was crossing the road at Abbeylands South, opposite Navan Fire Station when he was struck by the lorry. The injured boy was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital and then transferred to Temple Street where he remained in intensive care.

Cllr Wayne Forde expressed his condolences to the family of the youngster and said that they would be in the thoughts and prayers of the people of Navan.

Speaking tonight Cllr Francis Deane, Mayor of Navan said 'On behalf of the people of Navan, it is with a heavy heart that I offer my sincere condolences to the family of the late Elrich Caputo who has passed away tragically following a road traffic accident.

I also wish to extend my sympathies to Mr Devlin, staff and pupils of the close Scoil Mhuire community where Elrich attended school, as well as to Elrich's coaches and team mates in Parkvilla Football Club; a place where Elrich participated in his greatest passion, soccer.'
'May he rest in peace.'
