Sharon Keogan (Independent)
Sharon Keogan is a businesswoman in Duleek and has been a strong community activist for the past 20 years, both in Curraha and Duleek. She was elected to Meath County Council for the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District in 2014 and only lost out by a small margin in securing a second council seat in the Ashbourne Municipal District.
Cllr Keogan founded the Duleek & District Community Text Alert system five years ago, now one of the largest text alert systems in Meath. Her knowledge of the needs of the community in battling crime leaves her well-placed to understand how the shortage of garda resources through lack of funding and closure of garda stations has impacted in this area.
A full-time councillor with busy community advice clinics in Duleek, she also has an office in Ratoath serving the expanding communities of Ashbourne, Dunshaughlin, Dunboyne and Ratoath and has pledged to be a strong independent voice for Meath East, if elected. She is a member of the council’s housing and community SPC, Meath Travellers’ Committee, chair of Carranstown Community Fund and is a director of the East Border Region EU funding programme.
