Meade newcomer wins last

There was a fair sprinkling of local winners at the traditional New Year's Day racing action at Fairyhouse with Noel Meade landing the bumper and Denise Foster and Robbie Colgan on the mark.

Colgan and Cashelard Lady came home alone for a somewhat comfortable victory in a mares' maiden hurdle to give locally-based handler Shane Crawley his second winner on the track. Colgan had almost 40 lengths to spare at the post

Denise Foster gave Robbie Power and early 2016 winner when the Summerhill jockey got Not For Burning first past the post in a handicap hurdle for her first success since sending out Lily's Rainbow to win on the flat at Naas last June.

Noel Meade took the bumper when Nina Carberry partnered Stoneford to a winning debut for owners Gigginstown.

PUNCHESTOWN

Tony Martin and Barry Geraghty saw out 2015 in winning form at Punchestown on Thursday with a win with Noble Emperor from Seabass and Katie Walsh in a hurdle.

The JP McManus-owned Noble Emperor got the better of Seabass from the last.

Robbie Power also got into the winners' enclosure when he got Oscar Sam home in front in a handicap hurdle for trainer Jessica Harrington.
