Thumbs up from Peter O'Reilly at Laytown this evening.

Meath racetracks involved inoreilly record attempt

Kildare man Peter O'Reilly completed his mission to ride at Ireland's 26 race tracks in 24 hours today with Navan, Fairyhouse, Bellewstown and Laytown all included in the record attempt in aid of the Irish Injured Jockeys.

O'Reilly actually completed the target in about 16 hours after he started this morning at Downpatrick around 5am - he was scheduled to arrive ay Laytown this evening at 1950 hrs and duly drove into the sparsely populated enclosure on schedule.

There, waiting to help the Kildare man on the second last leg was Alan Delaney in the parade ring with Escaping Midge - a four-year-old filly owned by Eamon Delany.

Although he was tired and sore, Peter was legged up and headed for the strand where the duo completed about four furlongs watched by some walkers on the beach.

Also there was Laytown Race Committee chairman Niall Delany, Eamon Delany, Kevin Coleman and James Black along with a number of other enthusiasts who were involved in organising the event.

Peter managed a brief interview with the Meath Chronicle (see windswept video clip) before heading off to Dundalk for the final leg of a marathon day. The target for fundraising is €25,000.
