Gaeil Colmcille players in a happy mood in Navan tonight

Party time for gaeil colmcille plus correct results

There will probably be a party going on in Kells tonight after Gaeil Colmcille produced the shock of the night with a sensational 2-12 to 1-9 SFC second round victory over Simonstown Gaels.

This was a first championship victory for new manager Lar Wall who praised the effort and attitude of his players and looked forward to a third round tie against Na Fianna next month.

What was remarkable about the victory was the fact that Gaeil Colmcille weren't at the races in the opening half, during which they missed a gilt-edged goal chance and trailed by double scores (0-5 to 1-7) at the interval.

However, by the time the third-quarter had elapsed it was still a five-point game, but now Gaeil Colmcille were ahead by five points 2-9 to 1-7 after a 10-point turnaround.

The Gaeil Colmcille goals arrived from Marty Barrett, a deflected effort, and Oisin Reilly.

With Simonstown managing just two second-half points, it was a miserable evening for the Navan men who had Hank Traynor in charge on the sideline as manager Colm O'Rourke recovers from a procedure in hospital.
