Mcquillan saves help ireland to memorable victory

Amanda McQuillan played her part as the Republic of Ireland u-17 women's team recorded a memorable victory over England in the UEFA Championships Elite Qualifing round at Turner's Cross, Cork last evening. 

First-half goals from Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Saoirse Noonan gave Dave Connell's side the platform for victory and now the Irish side face the Netherlands in an encounter crucial to their hopes also at Turners Cross, tomorrow (Saturday) 3pm.  

McQuillan, who is from Johnstown, made a series of excellent saves over the course of the game as the English side sought to net the goals that would keep themselves in the frame. 

In the closing stages McQuillan, who plays for Raheny Utd, made two fine stops in a minute from Taylor  Hinds and Alessia Russo to help keep her side in front and clinch a rousing victory. 

Ireland are also due to take on Hungary at Turner's Cross on Tuesday, 12.0. McQuillan is also likely to feature for Raheny Utd in the Women's Cup final at Tolka Park, on Sunday 26th April.
