Bank raid foiled in dunboyne

Two armed men left empty-handed following a failed heist on Bank of Ireland's Dunboyne branch on Tuesday morning, 10th March.

The male raiders, who are believed to be Eastern European, gained access via the roof and attempted to access the bank's safe at around 9am.

They then threatened staff before making their escape in a 2002 Dublin-registered silver Hyundai saloon, which was found abandoned just 200 yards away.

The suspects subsequently fled in a maroon-coloured saloon driven by a third male.

No serious injuries were sustained during the incident. A firearm was recovered at the scene, however, and the bank branch remained closed at the time of going to press.

The two men involved in the attempted robbery are said to be of average height and build. One wore a long-sleeved check shirt and jeans while the other wore a tracksuit with a blue and white stripe in the sleeve.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact Ashboune Garda Station on (01) 801 0600.
