Call for 1916 centenary ideas from athlone gallery

To accompany the national 1916 Rising Centenary Celebration, Athlone Arts and Tourism invite unique exhibition ideas and art project proposals from individual or group, amateur or professional artists, for Luan Gallery in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

Ideas from artists working in all media are welcomed. Visual arts projects may include: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, mixed media, installation, sound art, performance, or video.

Luan Gallery is Athlone’s contemporary municipal visual art space. Located in the renovated and extended former Fr Mathew Hall, Luan Gallery enjoys a prime location situated on the majestic River Shannon in the heart of Ireland.

Luan Gallery consists of three separate gallery spaces: the New Gallery, suitable for wall hung works, installation or film works; the River Gallery, ideal for large scale wall hung works that are not sensitive to day light and the Library Gallery, housed in the former Fr Matthew hall, best suited to a combination of wall hung and floor based works.

Artists may propose projects to suit one or all three gallery spaces.

Aedín McGinn, Assistant Manager stated: 'This is an opportunity for those who would like to show in Luan Gallery to let us know who you are and what you do. It is a wonderful opportunity for us as an organisation to be introduced to new names and projects. The opportunity to show in 2016 is very limited but by answering the open call, you are introducing your practice to the gallery and future opportunities may arise.'

Interested individuals and parties should submit a concise outline of the proposed project including: project title, format, summary of concept, its suitability to the venue and how it relates to the 1916 centenary, support materials as appropriate, and a list of possible collaborators or associates to Luan Gallery by 12 noon Friday 27th March 2015.
