Opportunity knocks for young meath athletes

Young athletes looking to represent Meath in national competitions will have a chance to make a name for themselves on Sunday when a series of trial races will be held at the Cowpark, Dunboyne, 11.0.

The trials will be held for boys and girls at u-12 and u-14 levels and from them county teams will be selected for the 4x500m National Inter-County Cross-Country Relays at Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor, Co Down on Sunday 1st March.

Four trial races will be held at the Cowpark over 500 metres - and 2014 age groups will apply.

To compete in the u-12 event young athletes must have been born in 2003 or 2004.

For the u-14 grade athletes must have been born in 2001 or 2002.

There is no entry or admission fee to the event. The first four across the line, plus one substitute, will be selected to represent Meath at the National Championships.

If there are less than four competitors then no team will be selected.

Those taking cars to the trials are requested to park at the nearby train station or Dunboyne Community Centre.
