Nobber win final and part with manager

Nobber added another trophy to their list of silverware for 2014 when they won the inaugural Córn na Bóinne Cup final at Pairc Tailteann this evening with a 0-10 to 0-7 victory against Ballinlough.

Last week Nobber win the MFC Div 5 final and continued their rich vein of form with a hard-working display that delivered the trophy this evening in front of an estimated crowd of about 250.

There was also a minute's silence before the start in memory of the late Seamie Heery who passed away today. The deceased was a member of the Meath team that brought the Sam Maguire Cup to the county for the first time in 1949.

Prior to the start of the game also, the Nobber players provided a guard of honour for the Ballinlough players (see video clip) in recognition of their IFC title win.

In the game, Nobber were ahead by 0-6 to 0-3 at half-time and they survived a stern second-half exam from Ballinlough to hold on for victory.

Sean Meade and Brian Farrell scored four points each with Brendan Heffernan and Niall Farrell completing the tally.

It also marked the final game in charge for manager Tony Kearney who, it is understood, was informed a number of days ago that his services would not be required for next year.

The cup was presented by Tony McEntee of sponsors Breen's Allcare Pharmacy who commented at the start of the competition - at the announcement of the sponsorship - that he would be quite happy to present the cup to Nobber. He got his wish.
