Charity hurling challenge for Cancer Research

There will be a Meath flavour at St Conleth's park, Newbridge next Tuesday evening when the third annual Jim Bolger-organised charity hurling game in aid of the Irish Cancer Society takes place at 6.30pm with Colm O'Rourke set for another hurling debut?

Organised jointly by Jim Bolger and champion national hunt jockey Davy Russell, the hugely popular event will see a host of Irish hurling and horseracing stars come together for what promises to be a great evening.

This year’s event follows the amazing success of Hurling for Cancer Research 2012 and 2013 which to date has raised €200,000 for the Irish Cancer Society’s cancer research programme.

The participants, a mix of GAA and horseracing stars, include Mark Landers, T.J. Ryan, Pat Fox, Joe Deane, Damien Fitzhenry and Charlie Carter - all active in horseracing.

All-Ireland minor winner James Dowling will captain Team JSB.

Wexford All-Ireland winning manager Liam Griffin, Kilkenny manager Brian Cody, Derby-winning jockeys Kevin Manning and Michael Kinane will also feature.

Along with Colm O'Rourke, Gráinne Seoige will add some glamour while Michael O’Leary and Ronnie Delaney will be there.

Sile Seoige and Katie Walsh will team up with Niall Quinn, DJ Carey and Nicky English while Cyril Farrell will referee and Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will commentate.

Tickets for the event and donations and more information from Trim woman Clodagh Mitchell who reports that her good filly Lily's Angel is in foal.
