Edison lights up Galway Hurdle

Tony Martin added another big race winner at the Galway Festival to make three for Meath out of the four feature races so far when the JP McManus-owned Thomas Edison won the Galway Hurdle in fine style today.

This was the owner's first Galway Hurdle - worth €150,500 to the winner.

'From the time they jumped the first he was always in pole position. These big handicaps are great to be part of and of course it's even better to win,' commented the trainer in a post-race television interview.

Unusually, for the third successive year, Longwood handler Gordon Elliott took the runner-up position when Bayan finished second for jockey Davy Condon.?

The Tote aggregate today almost hit the €1million mark and also showed a substantial increase on last year at  €996,842 (2013 - €840,253)?.
