What's Trending on Social Media

What's Trending? - February 3rd

Have you missed out on this weekend’s most talked about topics across the social media world? Well fear not as we have them all below for you to feast your eyes upon.

1. #SuperBowlXLVIII, #SeattleSeahawks, #GoHawks, #SB48, Broncos, Denver, Peyton Manning

Of course the Super Bowl is absolutely dominating Social Media sites across the world today as the Seattle Sea Hawks took on the Denver Broncos in the 48th Annual Super Bowl, which took place in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey this year.

For those of you who couldn’t stay up and recorded the game and plan to watch it at a more reasonable hour... Now is time to look away.

The Seahawks absolutely stormed to victory, defeating the Broncos 43-8, one of the biggest defeats in Super Bowl history. It took Denver until the third quarter to score, but unfortunately the game was out of reach at this late stage, so this year’s Vince Lombardi trophy and Super Bowl rings went to Seattle.

So, for those who managed to stay up, was it worth it? Did you enjoy the game? Let us know.

2. #EsuranceSave30

Another Super Bowl related trend but this deserves a section of its own. Apart from the Super Bowl itself and the Half-Time Show another big talking point every year are the ads that are shown during the game. Each ad can cost in the millions and usually each company wants to make their ad the most memorable so they can get bang for their buck.

However Esurance decided to do things differently this year. Esurance are an online broker company and instead of airing their ad during the big game they decided to air it straight after the game, saving themselves $1.5 million! They now want to share this saving with you and have asked for you to tweet the hashtag #EsuranceSave30 and a winner will be picked on February 4th on an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. The hashtag is trending all over social media sites and Esurance have made themselves the most talked about ad of the Super Bowl, by not airing during the game. Clever!! Check out the video below.

 3. Garth Brooks

Good ole Garth Brooks can’t get enough of our little country and has only gone and announced ANOTHER Croke Park concert, bringing it up to 4 concerts in total! The newly added concert will take place on Monday 28th July 2014.

Last week the country crooner sold out a whopping three dates in 90 minutes and netted himself an estimated €15 million in the process. 240,000 people are expected to attend the three dates with that figure expected to hit well over the 300,000 mark once the fourth date sells out. Aiken Promotions stated after the third date sold out that it had been the fastest selling concert the company had ever been involved with.

Tickets, priced at €65.45, go on sale this Thursday 6 Feb at 9am and are limited to six per person.

So, will you be bracing the weather and queuing for tickets this time round? We’d love to hear from you.

4. Ireland

Our wee country was trending across the weekend, and rightly so as the Irish Rugby team started off their Six Nations campaign in top form, beating Scotland 28-6 in The Aviva Stadium on Sunday February 2nd. This Six Nations campaign of course marks the beginning of the end for Brian O’ Driscoll’s career. Will you be sad to see the legendary BOD leave the squad? Let us know.

Another reason Ireland was trending across social media sites is of course because of the weather we have been experiencing. Parts of the country are suffering yet more damage and destruction of their homes and businesses thanks to gale force winds and flooding. Some unbelievable imagery has come to light from Limerick, Clare and Cork which can be seen below.

Have you been affected by this weekend’s storms or maybe you have some footage of the storm you’d like to share... Let us know and send it in to us.
