Foresters cut through the opposition at Irish Brass Band Championships

The Irish National Foresters hit the high notes recently when they won Section 2 of the IABCB Brass Band Championships in Athlone.

Under the musical direction of Mark Nutley, they played a piece by Jacob de Haan called Oregon and scored a massive 182 points out of 200 with adjudicator, Sarah Booth commenting on a “a truly enjoyable performance”.

This is an exceptional achievement for this band. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the band lost their beloved conductor and founder Jack Regan, and the band's future looked bleak and uncertain. But under the direction of a very dedicated committee and the musical direction of Mark Nutley, the band is now back on track with over 20 full-time members and performing multiple concerts and events throughout the year.

The INF is a vibrant and inclusive brass band and serves individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds with members from across the county.

The band currently have junior classes running and they are open to the recruitment of new junior and senior members.
