St Colmcille's GAA club honoured at annual Rehab awards

Meath GAA club St Colmcille's scooped the Community Group of the Year award at the Rehab Meath People of the Year awards at the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells last night in front of a large and appreciative crowd.

The award was accepted by James Kelly on behalf of the club and he explained that officials of the east Meath club felt they had to put something back into the community in the Bettystown area.

He explained that the area had grown from a population of about 3,500 a decade ago to about 20,000 now.

“We introduced a “How are you feeling today” programme that is aimed at promoting positive mental health and it has proved a huge success,” he stated.

“The support we received from Meath Co Council has to be acknowledged also as too ofetn all you hear about the Council is negative and that's not our experience,” he added.

Currently, St Colmcille's GAA club field a large amount of under-age teams in structured competitions, but also organise many coaching leagues internally as well as fielding adult teams in the various league and championships organised by Meath GAA Co Board.

Top Meath player Graham Reilly is from the St Colmcille's club and they also provided players for county under-age teams this year including Ruairi O'Grady who was at midfield for Meath in this year in the Leinster MFC.
