O'Mahonys back to winning ways

Marcus Brennan was the hero for Navan O’Mahonys with two crucial penalty saves that helped the Navan men to a 1-10 to 1-6 A FL Div 1 final victory over Dunboyne at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.

Brennan’s first stop came midway through the opening half when he denied David Geaney and  in the second-half he produced an outstanding save to deny Michael Dunne’s powerful spot-kick.

The Navan outfit burst out of the blocks and were ahead by 1-7 to 1-2 at the interval in front of a very small crowd.

The O’Mahonys goal came after six minutes of play when David Bray passed to his brother Stephen who rounded the Dunboyne netminder Johnny O’Connor to fire home from close range.

Dunboyne were handed an opportunity to get back into the match on 12 minutes from a penalty which David Geaney failed to convert.

Referee John Farrelly pointed to the spot again just two minutes later, this time for O’Mahonys after Damien Sweeney was deemed to have fouled David Bray.

Dunboyne ’keeper O’Connor produced a fine save to deny Paddy Smyth.

O’Mahonys maintained the initiative after the break and three more scores gave them a merited  victory.

Meath Co. Board Chairman Conor Tormey presented the Division 1 trophy to O’Mahonys captain Niall McKeigue.
