Tough week on everyone in Kilmainhamwood

Kilmainhamwood captain Tommy Owens remarked in his speech after he received the Junior d Cup from Meath Co Board official John Kavanagh at Sean Newman Park today that it had been a tough week on everyone in the parish.

He paid a special tribute to 'the legend' Ray Magee who lined out at number 13 for Kilmainhamwood and played a crucial role in the victory despite the fact that his father, the late Paddy Magee, passed away this week and was laid to rest on Friday.

There was minute's silence before the start of the game as a mark of respect and the flags were at half-mast.

'We have all lost familiy members in the past and it was huge loss this week with the passing of Paddy Magee, but this victory will give us all a lift,' he said.

Many of the veteran stars of Kilmainhamwood's fabulous Keegan Cup success featured in the Junior D victory today.

Some of those who didn't make the team included another 'legend' of Meath football, the one and only Brian Stafford, and he was there cheering the team on from the sideline and celebrating with the players afterwards.

The captain also paid tribute to the contribution Seneschalstown made to the final as did Co Board official John Kavanagh.

John Kavanagh said: 'It has been a bad week for Seneschalstown on the pitch with a number of defeats, but they are a credit fielding a third adult team and they contributed a to a great game.'
