Alice at Home for upcyclers fair

Friday 23rd August sees the arrival of 'The BIG Upcycle' to the Stillorgan Park Hotel in Dublin for the weekend supported by the EPA.  Alice at Home Interiors from Drumree will be there displaying their upcycled items which range from quirky cabinets to stylish dressers. Upcycling is the term used to describe repurposing any item in order to rescue it from becoming waste and the Dublin event will bring together at least 20 businesses that have been borne out of the ability to do just that.

Keen upcyclers Lynn Haughton and Gwen Jeffares came up with the idea for the event having recognised the incredible talent that exists around the country in upcycling an activity which for some is a hobby but for many has become a lucrative business.

“There really is truth in the old adage, one man’s waste is another man’s treasure”, said Lynn Haughton,  By the time you leave The BIG Upcycle Market you will know exactly what it is and you will be amazed at the upcycled creations that are available to buy from Irish businesses. Upcycling is seeing the potential in something that is either broken, excess or unwanted and using it in a creative way”.

The market will give Irelands upcyclers a platform to showcase, promote and sell their work and to open people’s eyes to all the possibilities that upcycling brings.  The event collaboration will be full of wonderful gift ideas, unique furniture, eco fashion and much more - all upcycled and environmentally sound.

Many of the exhibitors now sell in high end stores around the country so this event provides the opportunity to buy quality upcycled products direct from the creators for a lot less then you might pay in store.

The organisers of The Big Upcycle intend to make it a regular event providing a solid platform to Irelands upcyclers and encouraging consumers to 'buy upcycled' and most importantly – to inform people of the quality and affordability of upcycled goods.

The Big Upcycle will launch on 23rd August with an evening of talks from the participants and an exhibition of the Big Upcycle “Broken to Brilliant” competition finalists.
