All-Ireland title for Trim boys

Amid a welter of excitement St Michael’s Boys National School in Trim were crowned All-Ireland champions at the Aviva Stadium yesterday only two weeks after they captured the Leinster FAI Primary Schools title in the hugely popular annual five-a-side at the MDL, Navan.

Under manager and former Galway footballer Eoin Joyce the Trim boys maintained their winning form from the provincial success as the All-Ireland finals were played at the Aviva Stadium for the first time.

Trim emulated the success of Athboy NS who won national honours last year when the finals were played at the South Co Dublin Co Council-owned Tallaght Stadium.

They also matched the feat of the St Michael’s team from 1996 that also won the All-Ireland title, those finals were played at the AUL Sports Complex near Dublin airport.

Included in the St Michael’s team that year was Timmy Clancy who is now with Hibernian who play Celtic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park today.

St Michael’s, Trim squad - Conor Hallinan; Paraic Costello, Luke Mahon, Luke Walsh Byrne, Oisín Devlin, Aaron Lynch. Cian Lee, Dylan Farrell.
