Indian scalps opposition for Downey

Slane trainer Pat Downey enjoyed an overdue visit to the winners' enclosure at Kilbeggan this evening when Indian Road Runner won the last race on the card.

The five-year-old finished third ona racecourse debut at Fairyhouse last month and followed up on that display with a fine win this evening.

The winner made good progress in the final three furlongs to lead approaching the winning post and win by half-a-length.

The trainer was enjoying his first success since Larkin won at Down Royal. Downey used to pre-train, but took out a licence at the end of 2010 and places his horses well.

Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch was also on the mark at Kilbeggan when he won a maiden hurdle with Sizing Sahara.
