The Ten Biggest Cruise Ships in the World

1. The Allure/Oasis of the Seas

Owned by Royal Caribbean - The Allure of the Seas and her sister ship, The Oasis of the Seas, both have identical superstructures and share the record for being the biggest cruise ship in the world. Both ships are divided into several 'neighbourhoods', which contain recreational activities such as a multi-deck dance floor, an ice rink and a theatre that seats 1380 people.

2.The Norwegian Epic

The Norwegian Epic takes second place in this list, and is Norwegian Cruise Line's largest ship. This ship accommodates 4100 passengers, and each outer cabin features its own balcony. There are a number of bars and clubs on the Norwegian Epic, and more active passengers can enjoy using a large sports complex complete with her own basketball court and climbing wall. 3. The Freedom/Liberty/Independence of the Seas

The three sister ships from Royal Caribbean International's 'Freedom' line each rank as the third largest cruise ship in the world. All three ships have substantial sports facilities, a three level formal dining room and various night-time activities including casinos, bars and lounges. The Freedom class also includes clever design innovations, such as two whirlpools that extend from the side of the ship to allow spectacular views of the sea.

4. RMS Queen Mary 2

In fourth place lies the RMS Queen Mary 2, which was named by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004. Although the RMS Queen Mary 2 is not currently the largest cruise ship in operation, it still holds the title of being the largest ocean liner in current use. A cruise on board the RMS Queen Mary 2 comes with optional pre-made programs of exciting daytime activities to undertake, including participating in art classes and dancing lessons.

5. MSC Divina

The MSC Divina is a recent construction (entering service in May 2012) that is able to accommodate a total of 3,959 passengers. The MSC prioritises its passengers' comfort by choosing a spacious design style and hosting a large number of spa treatments including massage, a sauna, and whirlpools. 6. The Navigator/Marina of the Seas

Both the Navigator and Marina of the Seas are the two identical next generation vessels of Royal Caribbean International's Voyager line. Both Ships contain expansive art collections, numerous spas, indoor shopping and excellent sports facilities. Both casual and formal dining is available, or customers can have meals delivered to their cabins by 24-hour room service.

7. MSC Fantasia/Splendida

As with MSC's Divina, the Fantasia and Splendida ships prioritise their passengers' comfort with a plenitude of spa facilities and beauty therapies. The Fantasia and Splendida also incorporate twelve hydro-massage pools, a thermal cave and a select VIP area, which includes a butler service and access to MSC's Yacht club.

8. Explorer of the Seas

Like both the Navigator and Marina of the Seas, the Explorer of the Seas is a member of Royal Caribbean International's Voyager line. The Explorer of the Seas is specifically catered to families and athletic recreation. To this end, the ship has plenty of age-appropriate activities for children and teenagers, and also includes state-of-the-art fitness facilities with a panoramic ocean view.

9. Voyager/Adventurer of the Seas

The Voyager and Adventurer of the Seas are the final and smallest two ships in Royal Caribbean International's Voyager line. Although the smallest of the Voyager line, they also possess the widest range of facilities (including a wedding chapel), which has led to them being referred to as 'floating hotels'. The 'Royal Promenade' has a large collection of cafés and shops, and even hosts a Mardi Gras parade.

10. Carnival Dream/Magic/Breeze

The final sister ships on this list, the Carnival Dream, Magic and Breeze, have the widest range of activities available on Carnival Cruise Lines's ships. Passengers can expect to find a miniature golf course and a water park, as well as a spacious and large outdoor deck. Although the Carnival Dream, Magic and Breeze feature last on this list, each ship is capable of holding upwards of 6440 passengers each.
