Kells journalist honoured at health literacy awards

Kells journalist, Deirdre Reynolds, has been honoured at the Crystal Clear National Health Literacy Awards 2012. Ms Reynolds, from Drumbaragh, was shortlisted for 'Best Health Communication through Journalism' for her article, 'At 33, I thought I was too young to get breast cancer - but I was wrong' - which appeared in the Irish Independent. Hosted by the National Adult Literacy Agency and healthcare company MSD, the national awards recognise professionals for their outstanding efforts to communicate with people in a 'Crystal Clear' way. Former Eureka student, Ms Reynolds (29), graduated with an honours degree in Communications (Journalism) from DIT, Aungier Street, in 2005. Since then, she has written extensively for the Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, Irish Sun, Irish Daily Mail, Sunday World and Image magazine. She is also a familiar voice on TV and radio, featuring on shows including TV3's Ireland AM, RTE One's Four Live, Today FM's The Last Word and Morning Ireland on RTE Radio 1. Ms Reynolds was previously awarded Duais Foras na Gailge and a Young Professionals in Media scholarship by the Irish Institute at Boston College.
