Trim folk park could result in up to eight jobs

Plans for a folk park attraction at Trim's Ring Road could see the creation of up to eight full-time jobs when the development is completed, according to the steering group leading the project. The project is being spearheaded by Scurlogstown Olympiad, together with representatives of Trim Chamber of Commerce, Trim Tidy Towns, Trim Comhaltas and other local groups and the proposals include a folk park and 'teach ceol'. A site on the Ring Road, which served as a temporary halting site while the former St Martin's Park was being redeveloped, is being proposed for the development and exploratory meetings have been taking place with Meath County Council about leasing this site from the local authority. Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Minister Jimmy Deenihan visited the proposed site last week and Seamus O'Droma of the steering group outlined the economic benefits of the development to the Minister. It is expected that the park would provide up to eight full-time positions, when completed, along with a larger number of positions during the construction phase. At present, the project is being led by Scurlogstown Olympiad together with representatives of Trim Chamber of Commerce, Trim Tidy Towns, Trim Comhaltas and other groups. Mr O'Droma said the project was in the very early stages of development and the steering group would be very open to listening to interested groups or individuals. "A number of public meetings will be held shortly to hear what the people of Trim and the surrounding area would like to have in a folk park and what name will be given to the new project. Everybody is invited to become involved and a proper structure will be established in the near future," he said.
