Sheen film opens new season of movies at Solstice Arts Centre

The Solstice Arts Centre in Navan has launched a new film season as a direct response to the positive feedback received following a very successful test screening of the French film 'Of Gods and Men' in November. The film season aims to present a diverse range of films such as foreign language films, arthouse cinema, Irish produced films and old classics. For this first film season, January to April, Solstice will present one film a month. Audiences can choose to book per film or book all four films at a discounted ticket bundle price of only €18. As the film programme grows, Solstice hopes to introduce a film club which would comprise of film introductions and club member's film choice nights, refreshments and more. The first film of the season, starring Martin Sheen is 'The Way' on Wednesday 25th January. After the sudden death of his globe-trekking son, Tom (Sheen) flies to the Pyrenees to collect his body. But he spontaneously decides to complete his son's journey, scattering his ashes along the 800 km Way of St James, a pilgrim's path which becomes a life-changing experience. En route he attracts a band of inescapable companions, each with a tale to tell. On Wednesday 22nd February, much-loved actress Audrey Tautou, of 'Amelie' fame, stars in 'Beautiful Lies', a quirky romantic French comedy about a chatty hairdresser who concocts a plan to cheer up her mother who is suffering from a serious case of the blues. Irish film 'Parked', starring Colm Meaney as Fred is set in Dublin and tells the story of a man down on his luck and living in his car. He is shut off from the world, until a young, ever-positive, drug addict parks his little yellow car beside Fred's. 'Parked' will screen on Wednesday 21st March. The last film of the season is the old black and white classic comedy 'Some Like it Hot', to be screened on Sunday 22nd April at 3.30pm. Joe and Jerry are two out-of-work on-the-run musicians that hide out by dressing as women and joining Sweet Sue's All-Girl Band. They both become infatuated with lead singer Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe) and high-jinx ensue. Tickets per film are €7.50 full price or €6 concession or see all four films at a discounted ticket bundle price of only €18. The ticket bundle must be purchased in advance of the first screening.
