Trim Drama Group: Alive and kicking at Scoil Mhuire

If you enjoy a good comedy, make sure you get to see Trim Drama Group's production of Bernard Farrell's Christmas comedy 'Many Happy Returns'. The production, directed by Carmel McKiernan, runs for four nights only, from tomorrow (Thursday 17th November) to Sunday 20th November, inclusive. "Given the sudden and very disappointing closure of Trim Town Hall this past September, this production is being staged in Scoil Mhuire Secondary School, Patrick Street, Trim, located opposite St Joseph's Hospital and beside St Patrick's Church," said a spokesperson for the group. The comedy is set on Christmas Eve and involves a seasonal reunion which does not go to plan. Set in the home of an elderly father who lives with his adult daughter and husband, it is a well-written situation comedy, with plenty of laughs. The family consists of father Matty (Jack Kirwan), his slightly neurotic daughter, Irene (Bernadette Walsh), and her disillusioned husband, Arthur (Martin Bolger). Their house is festooned for the return of Declan (Kevin Martin) from New Zealand. He returns as a self-made millionaire, the proud owner of a supermarket chain 'Down Under', and with his Kiwi wife, Amanda (Cathy O'Brien) in tow. Adding to the chaos is the inopportune arrival of Matty's wife, Gladys (Terri White). The seasonal celebrations soon turning to dismay and all the old secrets are suddenly unwrapped like the Christmas presents nobody ever wanted. The tale is presented by Trim Drama Group in a witty and humourous style, a good old-fashioned laugh. As always, the set is superb, the well-decorated living room looking great on the Scoil Mhuire stage. Added the spokesperson: "Trim Drama Group wishes to sincerely thank the principal and staff of Scoil Mhuire for providing their hall and stage for the autumn production. "The school's assistance and support is greatly appreciated by the members of Trim Drama, and indeed, by all those who enjoy the arts in our community. The closure of the town hall has made it very difficult for the performing groups in Trim. But, Trim Drama Group is determined to keep going and to continue to provide top-class drama entertainment for Trim and the surrounding community." The play runs at 8pm for four nights, Thursday 17th-Sunday 20th November inclusive. Tickets are €12 (€10 concession) from James Allen Hair Design, Haggard Court, Trim, or on the door. The play is suitable for ages 15 and over.
