Winter wonderland promised as Discover Meath Christmas Fair comes to Fairyhouse

Meath Tourism has joined forces with Fairyhouse Racecourse to host the 'Discover Meath Christmas Fair’ on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th November. The Christmas Fair will run in conjunction with the racecourse’s much anticipated Winter Racing Festival over the two days. With an attendance in the region of 6,000-7,000 expected, it promises to be a spectacular Christmas showcase with lots of terrific Christmas shopping ideas from the tourism providers of the county, who will uniquely all gather under one roof for two days only. This Discover Meath Christmas Fair follows the success of the Discover Meath Family Day at Fairyhouse in July 2009 which was attended by over 4,000 people. There will be a host of festive events over the two days, including a Christmas Craft & Design Village, live cookery demonstrations with Meath’s leading chefs and a festive food village; a spa and wellness village offering complimentary therapies to beat the stresses of Christmas; a 'Solheim Cup’ Golf Village and a Discover Meath Heritage Cinema. This will be topped off with two days spectacular horse racing, Christmas choir singing, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, jugglers and stilt walkers - there is even a rumour that Santa Claus might pop in! Entry for children is free and intending patrons can visit www.fairyhouse.ie and www.meathtourism.ie for an extra discount which will offer €10 adult admission vouchers.  All the action and entertainment kicks off at 11am with the first race going to post at 12.15pm. Speaking at the launch, Cllr John V Farrelly, chairman of Meath Tourism, said: “We are working closely with Fairyhouse to establish the Discover Meath Christmas Fair as one of the leading events of its kind in the country. The event will provide a great opportunity to raise awareness of the many activities and attractions on offer in County Meath - and the opportunity to get your Christmas presents organised early this year with brilliant gift ideas on offer from the exhibitors!” Peter Roe, acting general manager of Fairyhouse Racecourse, added: “We are very excited about the Discover Meath Christmas Fair which, combined with top-class racing at our Winter Festival which includes Grade 1 Sunday, will provide entertainment for all the family. Entry for Children under 16 is free. He added: “At only €20 for a family of two adults and all children under 16, it’s a great value day out. We would encourage people to come early as gates open at 10.30am, entertainment kicks off at 11am and there will be plenty to do and see before the first race is off at 12.15pm.” More information about the Discover Meath Christmas Fair can be found at www.meathtourism.ie or www.fairyhouse.ie
