Sean Carey...to play 'Jesus' in the St Vincent de Paul Hall.

Carey for lead role in Kells musical

'Fame' TV star, Sean Carey, will play the lead role as 'Jesus' in Kells Musical Society's forthcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar. The Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice smash hit musical will be staged from Monday 4th October to Sunday 10th October (excluding Friday 8th) in the St Vincent De Paul Hall. Sean Carey from Dunshaughlin became something of an overnight star as he battled it out in The Helix during RTÉ's 'Fame: The Musical' TV contest earlier this year. The competition offered one young male and one young female the chance to kick-start their career and land the lead role in the nationwide tour of 'Fame: The Musical'. The teenager is a second year student of media, Irish and history at NUI Maynooth, and has been involved in musical theatre for the past four years, performing in a number of amateur musicals. Though he ultimately lost out in the final, he had made his name as a performer and Kells Musical Society is delighted to have bagged him for the lead role in its forthcoming musical production. This is the society's biggest stage production to date and has a cast of 40 adults who are busy rehearsing under director John Grant. Chorus mistress Carmel McGivney is also busy rehearsing the singing numbers and the music and orchestra for the show will be under the baton of musical director, Paul Byrne. Chorographer Lisa Tyrrell is also busy with the dance numbers and predicts the high standard of the cast will be very evident when the show opens. The booking office will open in the St Vincent De Paul theatre on Monday 27th September on (046) 924 1844 and block-booking rates will be available. For further information, contact John Grant on (087) 207 9557 or Brian O'Neill on (086) 384 1766. The society has produced a number of stage shows over the years, as well as their very successful panto every year. Previous musical shows include 'Showstoppers' and 'Godspell'. When 'Jesus Christ Superstar' finishes its run, the society will be busy preparing for its 35th annual pantomime, which will take place in February. This latest production will be 'Robin Hood'.
