Gardai seize shotgun from van near Summerhill

A 23-year-old man was arrested after Gardai recovered a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition following a search of a vehicle at Dangan, Summerhill, on Saturday. Gardai stopped the Ford Transit van and searched the vehicle where they found a sawn-off shotgun and quantity of ammuniton. The male occupant was arrested and taken to Trim Garda Station where he was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He was later relased without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. In a follow-up search at Scurlogstown, Trim, Gardai seized a quantity of cannabis. Navan Gardai are investigating the theft of a blue Nissan Nevara Crew Cab from a farmyard at Walterstown on Sunday morning. The 07 MH registered vehicle was taken between 7.40am and 8.30am. Navan Gardai are also investigating two burglaries over the past week. A house at Drumconrath was broken into between 11.30am and 2.15pm on Tuesday 27th July. A number of items were moved in the house and a quantity of cash was taken, along with an ATM card. A house at Curraghstown, Kentstown, was also broken into on Thursday 29th July, between 1.30pm and 3pm. A side window was forced and the house was ransacked but it is understood that nothing was taken. The theft of a laptop bag from a Ford Mondeo at Alder Walk, Athlumney Woods, Navan, is also being investigated by local Gardai. The break-in occurred between 9pm on 28th July and 8am on 29th July. The laptop bag contained documents, a Nokia mobile phone, a UK passport and a UK driving licence. The side window of a silver Mercedes van was broken at Limekiln, Navan, between midnight and 8.30am on 30th July. It is understood that nothing was taken. Nobber Gardai are investigating the theft of a purse and €50 from a Renault Scenic parked at a house at Batestown, Drumconrath, between 1am and 11am on 27th July. A 31-year-old Navan man has appeared in court in Dublin after being arrested for public order offences after he urinated on a bus. The man was travelling on a Bus Eireann bus and Gardai were called to Railway Street, Navan, at 10.30pm on Sunday. The man gave a false name and was arrested under the Public Order Act. He was taken to court in Dublin on Monday charged with public order offences. Meanwhile, two men were arrested following a fight at Ludlow Street, Navan, at around 3am on Sunday morning. A male from the Navan area was arrested and is due to appear before court at a later date, A second male with a Trim address was also arrested. The following night, a man in his 30s was arrested at Bridge Street, Navan, after he was abusive to Gardai.
