Gormanston triumphs in EU debate

Gormanston College transition year students won this years EU debate competition run by Meath County Council Library Service. The college students defeated their challengers from Ashbourne Community School in a very keenly contested debate. Gormanston College successfully proposed the motion that 'The EU has brought peace and prosperity to Europe'. Meath County Council Library Service organised the debate through its post-primary schools library service. Schools from all over the county were invited to enter the competition. The winning team received the EU debate Challenge Cup and vouchers for €40 for all finalists. There were also prizes from the EU Parliament Office in Dublin. The final was held at the European Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) at Grange, Dunsany. The judging panel was chaired by Mary Murphy, librarian with Meath County Council Library Service; Cllr Willie Carey, cathaoirleach of Meath County Council; Humberto Latino from the FVO at Grange and Marie Quinn from the European Parliament Office in Dublin.
