Blaney for Azerbaijan

Navan boxer Christopher Blaney will open up another chapter in his career when he embarks on a journey to Azerbaijan for an international tournament this week from Friday, 27th November and Saturday, 5th December. Blaney be fighting in the 70kgs division and he will travel to the tournament on the back of a morale-boosting success in the National u-21 Championships. He goes to Azerbaijan as part of an Irish team to take part in the tournament which will feature eight teams from five continents. A student of O'Carolan College, Nobber, 17-year-old Blaney already has vital experience of boxing on the international stage having taken part in a six-nation tournament in Ukraine earlier this year. An orthodox boxer Blaney displayed his talents by earning gold in the Ukrainian tournament out-scoring his Australian opponent in the final. Blaney again showcased his talents at the National Stadium a few weeks ago when he won the 71kgs final in the National u-21 Championships to pick up his seventh title at under-age level. The Meath boxer displayed plenty of resilience to recover from a slow start to get the better of Galway boxer Brian Brosnan. Blaney is coached at Navan Boxing Club by his father Chris Blaney, George Gibney, Donal Barrett and Richie Meade.
