Recent deaths 14-11-09

Widespread sadness was caused with news of the death of Mr Keith Fagan, Brannockstown, Rathmolyon, on 22nd September last at Beaumont Hospital. Aged 36, he passed away after an illness of five months. Summerhill native Keith was a driver with Mahon Waste, Trim, and had also worked for four years with Dixon Sand and Gravel. He moved to Boardsmill on his marriage to Christine O'Brien in 2000. Deceased enjoyed sports immensely and played with Summerhill tennis and badminton clubs for many years. He also played for Dangan Rovers Soccer Club and won prizes for archery in his teenage years. With Summerhill GFC he played mainly in goals and later with Boardsmill continued to play between the posts and also took up hurling with his adopted club, enjoying various junior championship success in both codes. And naturally, he was a great supporter of Meath GAA over the years. A member of South Meath Golf Club, Keith held the position of club secretary for two years up to the time of his passing. An avid Liverpool FC supporter, he visited Anfield each year with a group of friends and the club anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' was among the pieces played at his funeral Mass. Deceased will be remembered by family, friends and colleagues for his everlasting smile and good nature, and as a 'pure gentleman'. He fought a brave battle with his illness with courage and a positive attitude throughout. Keith is survived by his wife, Christine; daughters Molly and Brid and baby son, Daniel; parents Mag and Martin; sisters Clodagh McDonnell, Deborah, Sabrina and Billie Jo Fagan; brother, John; parents-in-law, Betty and Eddie O'Brien; in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Brigid's Church, Boardsmill, to St Loman's Cemetery, Trim. ______________________________________________________________ Sir John Nugent, Clonmellon The death occurred on 9th October last of Sir John Nugent, of Ballinlough Castle, Clonmellon, whose family has been connected with the area for centuries. His father, Sir Hugh Nugent, was a successful racehorse trainer who trained in Clonsilla, commuting from Ballinlough. Deceased, who lived in Ireland for most of his childhood, spent his working life in Lambourn in the UK, involved with family businesses, manufacturing the Lambourn tractor cab, Lambourn Horseboxes and running the UK's largest racehorse transport company, LRT. Following education at Eton, John Nugent served a short commission in the Irish Guards and then worked as a PA to Lord Rootes in the engineering and motor business. He married Pepe Hanbury in 1959 and served as a magistrate, and High Sheriff of Berkshire in 1983. Following the death of his father in 1983, the Nugents returned to Ballinlough. Here, they hosted the Meath Pony Club camp for many years, the Ballymacad Hunter Trials and the Ballinlough Castle Horse Trials. Deceased served several years as chairman of the Ballymacad Hunt and the Irish Horse Trials Society. In 1995, Sir John and Pepe Nugent undertook a restoration of the walled gardens, in association with the Great Gardens of Ireland Restoration Scheme, and in recent years Ballinlough Castle was in an ideal condition to host several large events, including the Midlands Music Festival, featuring Kenny Rogers and Dwight Yoakam, the Garden Party in 2006 and 2007, featuring the Pet Shop Boys and Carl Cox; Tiesto in 2008 and the Life Festival in 2009. In addition, the first ever Irish National Country Fair was held at Ballinlough Castle this year. Following obsequies in Clonmellon Church, Sir John was buried in a private family cemetery at Ballinlough. He is survived by his wife Pepe, son Nicholas and daughter Grania, as well as four grandchildren. ______________________________________________________________ Derek Davis, Dunshaughlin Derek Davis, Lagore Road, Dunshaughlin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on 10th October last, aged 30. Educated in Dunshaughlin at both primary and secondary level, Derek then went onto Trinity College where he graduated with a BA in Management Science and Information Systems Studies. On completion of his studies, deceased was employed by Hewlett Packard (Mfg) Ltd, where he enjoyed his work until recently. Derek enjoyed photography and won awards for his portraits of wildlife and nature. He was also a keen supporter of Manchester United. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten for his smile, his strength and courage, and love. The youngest of the family, he is survived by parents John and Teresa; brothers John and Paul; sisters Louise and Suzanne; brothers-in-law, Padraic Dunne and Alan Clarke; sisters-in-law, Fiona Allen and Janice Hughes; nephews, Jordan and Evan Clarke, Alex and Adam Dunne; niece Kayla Davis; relatives and friends. The funeral took place from the Church of Ss Patrick and Seachnall, Dunshaughlin, to the local cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place on Friday 13th November at 8pm in Dunshaughlin Church.
