New historic walk for Trim

Meath Tourism is to launch a new historic walk in Trim later this month which will boost the tourism product on offer in the town. Sinn Féin Cllr Peadar Tóibín, who is a member fo Meath Tourism, has welcomed the news, saying: "The initiative was an effort to boost tourist numbers in the town and also improve the quality of the tourism product for locals and visitors alike. The historic walk has been designed in consultation with historians, archaeologists, the OPW, local tourism groups, the local community and churches. It is being implemented by Trim Town Council with Meath County Council and Meath Tourism." Cllr Tóibín said 10 plaques will be erected, along with three small interpretation panels and one large orientation panel. "The signs have been ordered and will be ready and installed within the next month. The information is in both Irish and English and the colourful panels should appeal to historians, educationalists, leisure groups and visitors to Trim. The trail forms part of the Failte Ireland Historic Trails initiative and the signage colour and size were developed by Failte Ireland," he added. Cllr Tóibín said that while this was an excellent development by Meath Tourism, it was now important that similar historic walks were developed for Navan, Kells and other towns in Meath. "The complete Boyne Walk initiative that we in Sinn Féin proposed at the start of the year should also be progressed," he said.
