Athboy sports day success

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students in Athboy Community School organised a sports day as part of their enterprise task for their Leaving Certificate portfolio. The schools sports fields and gym were awash with colour and noise as various sports events were in full flow. The LCA class and teacher, Ms Gillick, organised an inter-class basketball blitz, a soccer mini-league and a Gaelic football challenge as well as numerous other sporting activities. The LCA students refereed the games themselves, marked out pitches, set out equipment, collected entrance fees and ran a refreshment stand on the day. 'We were very pleased with how the day went,' said Luke Byrne, one of the organisers. 'The students seemed to get a lot out of it and there was a great atmosphere during the various matches and events.' The overall class winners on the day were the first year Bealtaine class for their combined performance in all events.
